I am a fully trained and qualified piano tuner and technician, having worked for well over 20 years in the industry with experience at private and concert levels. I have worked with top level celebrity musicians, have prepared pianos for various concert venues, schools and have tuned everything from granny’s ancient upright to Steinway grands.
Coming from a family with a working history in pianos of over 140 years, I find it hard to remember a time when I wasn’t surrounded by them, be it from when I was a small boy at home watching my father repairing or regulating piano actions in the garage or spending Saturdays at the family shop in Cobham, to days sitting next to dad listening to him tune so that my ear would change and I could learn how to hear beats rather than just sounds. From 1990 I spent 10 years in the workshop perfecting my skills at tuning and restoration, voicing, toning and repairs. Only after this, was I allowed to go on the road and start tuning for customers in their houses and venues. I am the fourth generation in my family to tune pianos; my father, Mr A. G. Sheargold taught me and his father, my Grandfather taught him as did his father and his father before.
